2019 Meeting Programs

Members are welcome to suggest topics and possible presenters for meetings to the
Guild Vice Presidents for Programming.

January
  • Carmen LaPonte of Quality Sewing & Vacuum will do a show-and-tell program of what's new in sewing machines and the best new tools, tips, and notions.
February
  • Fun Ugly Fabric Swap game resembling musical chairs! Bring fabric that makes you wonder "What was I thinking?" now that you have it. Please cut your ugly fabric into these 4 pieces (which add up to 1 yard and can be several different fabrics or all from the same one):
  • 1/2 yard
  • 1/4 yard
  • 1/8 yard
  • 1/8 yard
  • The challenge is to make something from the four pieces of ugly fabric you received. Add other fabrics and make anything from a quilt to a table runner to clothing to a tote bag or whatever. The ugly fabrics must appear on the front or outside (not hidden on the back or inside).   • Annie Miksch and Mary Bergman from the Vashon-Maury Health Collaborative will present options for keeping health care available on the island.
 March
  • Maggie Ball, of Dragonfly Quilts, will present her Innovative Quilts, Traditional Roots trunk show. She is the author of Bargello Quilts with a Twist.
April
  • Patricia Belyea, and daughter/business partner Victoria, of Okan Arts will present a trunk show. Their focus is on artisan quilts and Japanese textiles. Patricia is the author of East Meets West Quilts.
May
  • Darcy Anderson from Tinkertopia in Tacoma is our speaker. Tinkertopia, LLC. works with local businesses, capturing safe, reusable materials from the wastestream (aka Great Material Continuum), and reimagines these as unusual arts and craft supplies for kids, teachers, makers and tinkerers.
June 
  • Erin Weisbart of Tuesday Stitches, is our speaker. Tuesdays Stitches publishes "patterns to empower you to play Every Day Dress Up. Whether that means leggings and a t-shirt or a silver lamé party dress, we believe everyone should be able to decide what "dress up" means for themselves and that they should feel confident and beautiful every day in their own skin doing so." 
  • Ten percent of Tuesday Stitches net profits are donated to a charity that works for equality -- locally, domestically, or internationally.
July
  • Strawberry social! Hostesses Georgia, Kasia, Barbara and Betsy will provide yummy strawberry treats. They invite everyone to bring a quilt book they love and a quilt they love. 
August

  • How to recruit new/younger members discussion.
September
  • AUCTION!! Clean out your sewing spaces and support guild programs! Georgia G. will serve as auctioneer again so we can raise funds to continue bringing interesting and talented speakers to our green island.
 October
  • Amy Reber of AmyReberDesigns will bring a presentation of the process of designing fabric. Her next fabric collection Marabella with Free Spirit is shipping to stores in June 2019.
 November
  • 2019 Challenge Quilts due for Show-and-Tell! (Check with Sharon A.--2018 winner--for instructions.)
  • Ugly Fabric Challenge projects due for Show-and-Tell!

  • Holiday party (2d Tues).  White elephant gift exchange--sewing related! Bring salad toppings for our festive lunch.
